Most dishwashers have filters that need to be cleaned. These filters are usually located under the sink. Most dishwashers have a drain line that runs from the bottom of the unit to the sewer system. This drain line is connected to a trap that catches any liquid waste that drains into the sewer system. A typical dishwasher uses about 1/2 gallon of hot water per load. Dishwashers typically run at a flow rate of 2 gallons per minute. This means that each cycle takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. During this time, the water is heated and circulated throughout the machine. After the wash cycle is completed, the water drains back down the drain line and into the trap. The trap holds the dirty water until the next cycle. At this point, the dirty water is drained out of the trap and sent to the sewer system.
